The Baked Bean Charity welcomes first work experience placement!

We've been very happy to welcome Nicholas as our new work experience recruit! He'll be working with us once a week, learning new skills and supporting our day to day work here in the charity. In the mornings, he'll work in the office, and in the afternoon he'll be downstairs with our other students.

Earlier today, we took him aside for a moment to find out how his first day was going.

How has your work experience day been?

I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I’ve helped in lots of ways - I’ve finished my induction pack and set out a timetable for my working days over the coming weeks. I’ve also helped with deliveries, organised the cupboard and helped with the plants downstairs.

What was your favourite part?

I enjoyed seeing all my old friends again from when I used to study here. It was good to help them out building the new Baked Bean Charity Garden! I helped to put the composter together, too, which is where we’ll put our food waste so that it can be used on our plants.

What do you enjoy about working?

I love helping people and working as a team.

Why do you think it’s so important to work together as a team?

Working as a team is beneficial for everyone. It means that everyone can be supported. I like working with other people because it helps me to develop new skills, like communication and listening.

And how would you like to use these skills in the future?

In the future, I’d like to be a doctor for mental health. It’s very important and I think people need to talk about it more. I’d like to help people like me.

I’d also like to be CEO of the NHS! because then I could encourage people to do their best and get things done.
